The Difference Between Till and ‘Til
“Until” is a word that we use to designate an action or an event which occurred from a certain point in time up to another certain point in time. Aside from “until”, some people also use the words “till” and “’til”. But what exactly is the difference between these two other alternatives for until?
Some say that the biggest difference between till and ’til is that one is wrong and the other one is right. Well, frankly speaking, it depends on who you are asking. One dictionary claims that till is just another word for until— they mean the exact same thing. On the other hand, it claims that ’til is a very common mistake because it is believed by many people (including me!) to be the abbreviation of until. And then again, some say that ’til has become acceptable as another word for until especially in advertising.
Oh well, language does change a lot so I guess it all depend on who you believe. But to be perfectly sure, just use until to avoid any grammatical error.
